Look at it: the DubLi Auctions platform is beautifully designed, the banners and images are classy and everything is well structured. German design and precision – chapeau!
However… this is Ecommerce, this is Online Trading and this is about Internet Marketing and it is not enough to just have an attractive website out there, it’s critical to attract customers from the cold market to come, see and buy. Especially with huge competition with similar Reverse Auctions as Dubli but… with a major difference: they show a lot of life and activity, they move fast and they are great fun even just to observe. People come back again and again, they play, they compete, they buy. Fast and furious that is. You can witness it right there… it’s amazing!
Let’s analyse the DubLi Auctions from a potential customer’s side:
When a person has an urgent need – say to get a Louis Vuitton Handbag for his wife for Christmas (2008 that is…) what does he do?
He goes to Google and types in keywords, here: Louis Vuitton Handbags
See… he’s really in a hurry… he finally tricked his beloved wife into telling him indirectly exactly what she wanted, so he knows the brand and the name and he has his Credit Card between his teeth.

How much does it cost? What’s the price…?
Oh my golly, you’ve got to find out… they show what the original costs but they are hiding the actual price! Is this Xmas or Easter…?
Well, DubLi promises up to 98% discount… that’s not bad… so that’s well worth to check it out. He hopes they get down to the point real fast as the clock is running and he’s really not interested in writing his PhD here, he wants to get this gift and go play golf as time is running there too… Golf has become so expensive and each minute counts.
What’s next?
He has to open an account – OK, fair enough. Done. What now? He wants to just buy … where was this thing again? Ah, Xpress Auction. There it is – cool. How can he buy now?
He has to click SHOW PRICE. So he clicks… but arghhhhhhhhhhh, doesn’t work, needs DubLi Credits … he needs to buy those first. Time is running… ok, they want his Credit Card details now… another few minutes, ok no problem, that’s normal.

Where was this handbag again? Ah… there it is… Normal Price quite whopping… well, his wife has an expensive taste… but just shows his taste too and that’s of course fine. Let’s see now what the price is NOW… So he FINALLY gets to the point and clicks SHOW PRICE.
Is the Price right?
Now one of two scenarios can happen… remember it’s Christmas and he’s in a hurry :
Either he’s so much in a hurry that he buys anyway as he just needs that thing NOW and off his shoulder. If the price is right, he may bookmark the site and come back sometime in the future. After all, there are still 9 DubLi Credits sitting there waiting to be used…
If it isn’t, he’s gone with not too good a feeling. . . he can’t play this time-consuming ‘wait & show’ game, he wants to get it done now – pronto! Too much time and too much money. His friend is calling to say they are already waiting for him on the turf… at least it’s done and hopefully it’s there in time… but his thoughts are already on the golf place and he’s out the door. Mission completed.

If the Price is too high, he will click the whole site away with a curse and look on Google who’s next on the list of 10. He feels he just lost $8 and he won’t go there again. He knows that these days there are discounts of 50% to 80% and he’s determined to get that bag at a price he’s willing and able to pay – and he will. Just not on DubLi.
Noone earns – the client is lost. Nothing holds him.
Assuming that delivery before Xmas is guaranteed and that the merchant – always DubLi – is credible, and accepting the fact that we have no influence on the way these Auctions work, this brings us to the conclusion that there are some important elements that make or break our success:

2. Being able to follow up personally – whether there is a sale or not.
